Greenburgh Insider: Town of Greenburgh: Pool opens Sunday at AF Veteran park--watch your small children in the pool.

Samantha Pfeffer, a student at Edgemont HS, lost her 2 1/2 year old sister when her sister drowned. Samantha formed a foundation to encourage parents/caregivers to be more careful.

The Greenburgh town pool at AF Veteran park opens tomorrow: Sunday May 26 and May 27th from 10 AM to 6 PM. The summer schedule is below.

Samantha Pfeffer is a student at Edgemont High. Her sister Saige lost her life when she was only 2.5 years old. Samantha was 8 years old in 2015. Despite a quick rush to action by family and the best efforts of medical professionals, who got her heart beating, Saige was pronounced dead two days later.

Samantha has devoted a good portion of her life chairing a foundation called the Water Guardians. The water Guardians and Samantha want to encourage parents and caregivers to be aware of the dangers at pools/beaches. Samantha appeared on a cable TV; you tube show Solving Problems. Link below:

Now that the summer pool season has started it is important for parents with small children to be careful. Drowning is a leading cause of accidental deaths in children, particularly those under the age of five. Drowning incidents are preventable through vigilance, education and proper safety. Drowning can occur in a matter of seconds and is often silent. A child can drown in the time it takes to answer a phone call or fetch a towel. That means constant, undistracted supervision is ESSENTIAL whenever children are near water.

Parents and caregivers might want to be trained in CPR and basic water rescue techniques. In an emergency knowing how to respond quickly and effectively can mean the difference between life and death. Talk to your children about water safety. Teach them to never enter the water without an adult and to always wear life jackets if they are not a  good swimmer.
