Greenburgh Insider: Town of Greenburgh: Proposed 2025 budget is on Greenburgh website.

Greenburgh Town Board to review proposed budget between now and December 20th. Public hearing on November 25th.

I submitted the proposed 2025 town budget to the Greenburgh Town Board for consideration. The budget proposal in its entirety can be found on the Greenburgh town website along with my budget message.

(see link below).

https://www.greenburghny.com/DocumentCenter/View/13332/Tentative-Budget-2025

There are two budgets—one for the villages and unincorporated Greenburgh (called the A budget) and the other for unincorporated Greenburgh (B budget). Some highlights are below. The tax rate in the B budget decreased by 4.30%. The tax rate in the A budget increased very slightly: 0.03%. Total appropriations in both budgets were also down.

For a more detailed explanation of the budget as proposed please read the budget message.   Residents who have questions can always feel free to e mail me at pfeiner@greenburghny.com  A public hearing on the proposed budget will be held on Monday, November 25th at 7:30 PM at Town Hall. We usually hold a second hearing in December.

Before the budget was submitted the Town Board discussed budget requests with department heads at public work sessions that were also televised and streamed on the website. The Town Board has until December 20th to approve a final budget. Discussions will be televised.

2025 BUDGET SUMMARY TOWN WIDE: (A Budget)

Tax rate increase = 0.03%

Total Appropriations = $24.7 million, down $1.4 million from 2024 (Please refer to At a Glance Page)

For a resident, whose home is assessed at $500,000 there would be an increase in the taxes they pay in 2025

compared to 2024 – $210.08 in 2025 vs. $210.03 in 2024, with an additional tax of $0.05 per $500,000 of

assessed value.

TOWN OUTSIDE: (B Budget)

Tax rate decrease = -4.30% (A Fund and B Fund combined)

Total Appropriations = $106.06 million, down $0.26 million from 2024 (Please refer to At a Glance Page)

For a resident, whose home is assessed at $500,000 there would be a decrease in the taxes they pay in 2025

compared to 2024 – $2,673.19 in 2025 vs. $2,793.28 in 2024, with a decrease of

$120.09 per $500,000 of assessed value.

*Footnote: If your assessment valuation is more than the average home value, you may see an increase in taxes. Because many assessments went up (value of properties) some residents will see tax hikes. Other taxpayers will pay the same or less next year.

Greenburgh Insider: Town of Greenburgh: Last day of early voting is TODAY--link to short video of Greenburgh Nature Center.

The under two minute video link of the Greenburgh Nature highlights what a special place the Nature Center is.

Today is the last day of early voting for the 2024 elections. The Greenburgh Town Hall is one of the early voting sites. Polls open from 10 am until 6 PM. Check the town of Greenburgh website (top of the site) to determine approximate wait times. There is no early voting on Monday. And, on Tuesday you must vote at your neighborhood polling site.

Terence Brosnan, our assistant cable TV coordinator, produced a short (under two minute) video of the Greenburgh Nature Center highlighting some of the great programs offered. The video captures how spectacular the nature center is. It’s located off of Central Ave on Dromore Road in the Edgemont section of town.  Visit the center  to enjoy a spectacular park.

Greenburgh Insider: Town of Greenburgh: Entertainment from 11-1 during Greenburgh Town Hall early voting hours.

Ice cream trucks, wait time info, covid/flu shots given by Health Center have made the early voting experience a positive experience for Greenburgh voters.

ENTERTAINMENT DURING EARLY VOTING FRIDAY.

A treat for early voters on Friday, November 1. Mark Maffucci will perform outside Town Hall while voters are waiting on line to cast their ballots. He will be at the early voting parking lot from 11 AM to 1 PM  Mark has enjoyed playing at local farmers markets in Hartsdale, Mahopac and Somers, open mics, covering great songs by Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Warren Zevon and beyond. He wants to enhance  enhance the voting experience with some mild, unassuming, easy listening, background kind of music for voters to listen to. We’re grateful to Mark for making waiting on lines easier and fun. On Friday early voting will take place from 8 AM to 4 PM.

TO MAKE IT EASIER TO TIME YOUR VOTE – the Town Clerks office is updating the town website each hour during the rest of early voting with estimated wait times to vote. Check the top of the Greenburgh website. Earlier this week the town live streamed the parking lot/lobby at town hall so voters could check out the lines. Although many voters appreciated this, some complained and didn’t want their images on the town website. Providing voters with estimated wait time serves the same purposes.

An ice cream truck was at Town Hall during early voting on Thursday to make the voting experience more enjoyable for many hungry voters. And the ice cream truck made the voting experience

sweeter!

Thank  you to the Westchester Community Health Center (formerly called the Greenburgh Neighborhood Health Center) for offering residents covid shots and flu shots (and blood pressure tests) on Wednesday and Thursday during early voting.

We’ve been trying to make the Greenburgh Town Hall early voting location a positive experience for voters of all parties.

Greenburgh Insider: Town of Greenburgh: Compost your pumpkins- drop them off at Town Hall, nature center, AF Veteran park.

Now that Halloween is over, please compost your pumpkins. We have placed dumpsters at the Greenburgh Town Hall, Greenburgh Nature Center and at Anthony Veteran Park.  You can dump your pumpkins in the dumpsters so they can be composted. The bins will be at these locations until Wednesday afternoon.

Next year I’d like the town to do what other communities around the nation do—organize a fun,  smash your pumpkin event.
