Greenburgh Insider: Presentation next Tuesday: ways to reduce flooding 4 corners Hartsdale & E Hartsdale Ave.

This is an important step that could lead to the redevelopment of the 4 corners of Hartsdale.

PRESENTATION NEXT TUESDAY -FLOOD RELIEF  4 CORNERS AND EAST HARTSDALE AVE VIA ZOOM.

On Tuesday, April 5th at 7:00pm, Garrett Duquesne, the Commissioner of Community Development and Conservation will host a presentation of traffic and pedestrian safety improvements, and stormwater/flooding mitigations for the Four Corners and East Hartsdale Avenue corridor, all within the context of redevelopment potential at Four Corners. The traffic and flooding mitigation strategies were developed by Consultant AKRF, who previously presented to the Town last year with a focus on traffic/pedestrian safety on East Hartsdale Avenue.

From a traffic/pedestrian safety perspective, the April 5th presentation will focus on existing conditions at Four Corners, and potential traffic and stormwater improvements. Redevelopment concepts consistent with the Town’s Four Corners Redevelopment Plan https://greenburghny.com/DocumentCenter/View/7955/Four-Corners-Redevelopment-Plan-dated-5-22-19 will also be presented. From a stormwater/flood mitigation perspective, both short and longer term strategies to mitigate flooding in the vicinity of Four Corners and East Hartsdale Avenue will be presented. Town staff are pursuing County and Federal funding for this area which will be detailed at the meeting.

The Town’s Planning and Engineering Consultant for this corridor, AKRF (Michael Beattie PE & Justin Seeney), will present the technical aspects of the studies.

Residents are welcome and encouraged to view the presentation by either streaming live on the Town website at https://ny-greenburgh.civicplus.com/485/Watch-Live-Board-Meetings or viewing live on Altice/Cablevision Channel 76 or FiOS/Verizon Channel 35. Questions and comments can be submitted during the meeting for the presenters by writing to publiccomment@greenburghny.com. Town staff will monitor this address and along with the Consultant will answer as many questions as possible within a 7:00pm to 9:00pm timeframe.

Greenburgh Insider: Greenburgh cares about Ukraine--residents working hard to support the innocent victims.

Last nights concert raised almost $27,000. There are many other ways Greenburgh residents can help the people of Ukraine.

We have an amazing community, with lots of terrific people who are working hard to help the innocent people of the Ukraine.

The March 27, 2022 “A Show of Caring – A Concert to Benefit Ukraine” at the Tarrytown Music Hall was inspiring and uplifting. Pianist Dr. Irena Portenko, Ukrainian Chorus Dumka of New York (recently seen on Saturday Night Live), pianist Svetlana Gorokhovich, countertenor Jeffrey Palmer, and Metropolitan Opera bass Stefan Szkafarowsky performed a compelling program that featured a variety of Ukrainian and other international music. One particularly moving segment was Szkafarowsky’s rendition of “I’ll Walk with God” which he dedicated to the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

A special shout out to the Tarrytown Music Hall -- specifically Bjorn Olsson, Executive Director – for donating the historic venue so that after expenses, all of the funds raised will be donated to the cause.

While the concert raised nearly $27,000 for charities providing humanitarian and medical aid to the people of the Ukraine, many in our area want to do much more to help. Here are some resources to guide you:

Greenburgh Insider: Greenburgh summer internship--looking for students interested in an amazing experience.

Students have met with former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Andre Leon Talley, the Attorney General of Colorado and other nationally respected leaders during past summers.

Greenburgh Town Clerk Judith Beville and I have started accepting requests from High School and College  students who reside in Greenburgh for our 2022  summer internship program which begins the week of July 12th and continues through to August 18.. Students meet Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays from 10 AM to 3 PM.  High School students receive $400 stipend and college students get a stipend of over $500.

Every year students get the chance to interact with outstanding leaders. See link below from 2015 when the students met with Andre Leon Talley, who passed away recently. Andre, was an American fashion journalist, stylist, creative director and editor at large of Vogue.  He suggested to the interns pursue your passion, persevere and never give up.

Last summer the student interns met with Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser, former resident of Hastings and two years ago the students had the opportunity to ask former United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton questions via zoom.  Students host public service announcements, lobby for legislation, speak at Town Board meetings, meet with community leaders. And work on interesting projects.  This internship is also a great opportunity for students from different school districts within Greenburgh to work together.

If you're interested  in becoming a student intern this summer please e mail pfeiner@greenburghny.com and jbeville@greenburghny.com.

The summer internship is just one of a number of programs that town Clerk Beville and Supervisor Feiner are sponsoring. Students interested in helping small businesses that are struggling can sign up for the Zuckerberg/Greenburgh post pandemic task force and use social media skills - helping struggling businesses survive. And, last week we announced plans to set up a student news network - students will host and produce their own TV news program about local news.

link to interview with Suzanne Lester whose life was changed for the better thanks to this amazing organization.

If you know anyone who is experiencing domestic violation problems or needs help  dealing with family court issues there is a fantastic non profit  that can help. The Coalition for Family Justice was founded by Monica Getz of Irvington in 1988. They have helped many people over the years. I recently interviewed Suzanne Lester, a resident of our town, on my WVOX radio program (see link below) who discusses how the Coalition saved her during a stressful time in her life. I have referred many people to this non profit over the years - residents  who were severely depressed feeling that they had nothing to live for. After joining this amazing organization their lives changed for the better -- they received support, great advice and help and were able to have happy lives, thanks to the Coalitions help.  Suzanne Lester discusses her life changing experiences on the radio.  Also -please see link to the Coalition for Family Justice website.

Greenburgh Insider: Town Bd considering traffic changes near Seely Place School in Edgemont.

A sidewalk on Robin Hill Road....

making some streets near Seely Place School one way.

The Greenburgh Police and Public Works department is working with the Town Board and Edgemont community to address safety issues impacting motorists, bicyclists ad pedestrians. At our Town Board work session on March 22nd we discussed plans to install a sidewalk along Robin Hill Road from Mount Joy Ave to Henry Street this year. And, we also discussed some safety improvements recommended by the police.  We were scheduled to vote on the resolutions at our March 23rd meeting but decided that we should hold the resolutions over till the next meeting to provide residents with an opportunity to review the changes before we take action. We want to make sure there is maximum outreach before taking action. Comments from residents who live near the impacted streets should be sent to townboard@greenburghny.com
