In memory of a great educator ---- Constantine Andreadis.

A testimonial from one of many Alumni who are devastated by this sad news.

"The Greenburgh School district lost a most beloved and cherished teacher yesterday, Constantine Andreadis, (or Dr A. … we called him)  .  His son posted of his passing yesterday and the Greenburgh HS alumni have all expressed utter heartbreak at the news. He was the best. A kind, giving, caring and super involved teacher who loved everyone one of his students. He taught art and photography but also chaired the yearbook club and Greek club in my time and directed the WISE internship program at Woodland. He opened doors for so many of us to potential careers we would not have dreamed to explore without him.. Thinking back I am so thankful we had him at Woodlands because he made coming to school a happy, warm, welcoming and inclusive experience. 

His classroom was always a safe place to go for help or advice. As I read through the posts I notice there are hundreds of students who felt the same way.

 

I am not sure how Greenburgh can honor his great work but I hope you can look into it. He was an incredible educator who touched many lives in this community. He should be remembered for his service."

AT the meeting of the Greenburgh Town Board tomorrow evening we will start with a moment of silence in honor and in memory of this great man who changed many young lives for the better. He cared about his students and made the world  (especially Greenburgh) a better place.

HAZARDOUS ROAD ALERT--DPW CREWS TO SALT ROADS IN AM BUT PLEASE STAY OFF ROADS.

Just got off the phone with the Commissioner of Public Works, Rich Fon. We have been advised that road conditions tomorrow AM will be very hazardous. Roads will be ICY and SLIPPERY.   We are calling in our DPW crews early in the morning to salt the roads. We strongly recommend that you stay off the roads  in early  morning -hours we want you to be safe and stay safe and don't want you to be the victim of a car accident.  By late AM the road conditions will improve and driving should be safer. 

Every year, when black ice conditions exist, hospitals get lots of emergency calls. Falling incidents could be life threatening when one falls on their heads. PLEASE, Please be careful.

MASK DISTRIBUTION EFFORT TODAY WAS A BIG SUCCESS--CLOSE TO 3,000 KN95 MASKS DISTRIBUTED.

PS: Thank you County Executive George Latimer, Town Board members Ken Jones, Francis Sheehan, Ellen Hendrickx for your efforts today handing out K-95 masks at 100 E Hartsdale Ave and at the Greenburgh Library.  We distributed close to 3,000 masks --have slightly more than two boxes left (just over 2,000 more masks). One mask kit per person---5 masks in each kit.  Will be at Acme Supermarket at noon to 1 PM on Knollwood Road and at the Greenburgh Housing Authority on Maple Ave after that time. The County Executive advised me today that he is trying to obtain more masks and Covid rapid tests and will be distributing them to local governments to give out when the county gets them. The Town Board will work hard distributing masks/covid rapid tests as soon as we get them.  WE currently have no rapid tests left.

MONDAY--QUESTIONS ANSWERED ABOUT MEDICARE

Peggy Farrar, a resident of Greenburgh and specialist in Medicare,  will be at the Theodore Young Community Center on Monday's from 10 AM to 11:30 AM volunteering her time to answer questions about Medicare. She can explain Part A, Part B and what happens if you do not select Part D. Many older residents are confused.  If you can't  get to the Theodore Young Community Center on Manhattan Ave on Mondays call her at 473-5878.

Greenburgh Insider: Snow update -recycling/sanitation pickup cancelled.

 

Roads passable but slippery. Be careful when driving!

Roads passable, but slippery...sanitation and recycling pickup cancelled today...snow angel volunteers wanted-delayed opening of library.

Snow update:

Our DPW crews have been working since 11 PM. I spoke with the police department and Commissioner of Public Works at 7 AM. Our crews have been sanding and plowing. No incidents, no road closures. Schools have been cancelled. We have 26 routes and believe that roads are passable --but with snow coming down they could be slippery. We have 142 miles of roads.

One of the challenges we face is Covid-19. Some of our highway crew members are out sick with Covid-19.  Because we are down staffing wise, we have temporarily assigned employees who work in the water, sanitation or parks department to our snow removal efforts.   We will be cancelling our sanitation and recycling pickup today.

The Library anticipates a delayed opening --hopefully by 11 AM

Our snow angels group of volunteers, now in our 31st year, helps clear driveways and paths for seniors and disabled residents. We depend on volunteers and can help more individuals with additional assistance.  If you'd like to volunteer please complete the following form:

Greenburgh Insider: Appointments required to meet with employees...participation at Town Bd meeting by zoom.

 

Because of Covid-19 we are trying hard to keep our employees and residents safe.

Because of Covid-19...

You MUST make an appointment with the employees you want to meet with at  Greenburgh Town Hall. The virus is spreading and some employees or their families, working in different departments of town government, have tested positive in recent weeks. Zoom meetings are encouraged until the spread of the virus slows down.  Obviously, many are nervous and we want to reduce the spread.

 

Next Wednesday at 7:30 PM is the first Town Board meeting of the year.  There will be a swearing in ceremony at the beginning of the meeting for recently elected and appointed officials, followed by the regular business of the Board.  Because of heightened Covid-19 transmission concerns we will be holding a hybrid (in person and Zoom) meeting, with the general public participating by Zoom.  Some Town Board members may also participate by Zoom.

 

For members of the public wanting to participate in the meeting, a link to participate by Zoom will be provided shortly before the meeting to anyone who sends a request to PublicComment@GreenburghNY.com by 6:00 PM on Wednesday.  Please put “Town Board Meeting Participation” in the subject line.

 

You don’t need Zoom to watch the proceedings.  As usual, you may view the proceedings on Altice/Cablevision Channel 76 and on FiOS/Verizon Chapter 35.  It will also be streamed live on the Town’s Website (https://ny-greenburgh.civicplus.com/485/Watch-Live-Board-Meetings).

Greenburgh Insider: Snow angel volunteers wanted.

 

This is Matthew Figueiredo-Cardoso, a senior at Ardsley High School.  I am part of the Greenburgh Angels Program. This program allows students to give back to the community through volunteer work.  The Snow Angel program was created to help shovel the driveways and walkways of senior citizens and disabled residents who are unable to do it themselves.

The Snow Angels are currently looking for volunteers to help with the snow removal program this winter. Residents often don’t need the entire driveway to be shoveled, rather  they only need a path cleared so that someone can bring them food or for emergency related events.

It’s a good opportunity to help and give back to the community. I have been part of this program for a few years now. It is an excellent workout and allows me to enjoy being outdoors while helping my community.

Greenburgh Insider: Reminder- all cars must be off road tonight even if you have exemptions.

 

Our highway crews will be out preparing for the snow and clearing the snow from 11 PM on...Please make sure that your car is off the streets.

We are calling in our DPW crews to clear roads of snow (and to prepare for tonight's storm). The crews will start working at 11 PM tonight. All cars must be off town roads to enable the DPW highway crews to do their work.

Thank you for your cooperation. If you have a hardship exemption your car must also be removed from the street tonight.
