Greenburgh Insider: Regeneron groundbreaking in Greenburgh took place today.

$1.8 billion expansion groundbreaking today at Regeneron!!!

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the groundbreaking for Regeneron's previously announced $1.8 billion research, preclinical manufacturing and support facilities at the company's Westchester County campus in Tarrytown. The company, a biotechnology leader that invents and manufactures life-transforming medicines for people with serious diseases, committed to creating at least 1,000 new full-time, high-skill jobs in the Mid-Hudson Region over the next five years. To encourage Regeneron's continued expansion in New York State, Empire State Development is supporting the project with up to $100 million in performance-based Excelsior Jobs Program tax credits, consistent with the company's hiring goals. Regeneron considered several potential sites in the tri-state area before deciding to expand in the Mid-Hudson region.

"New York is a leader in the life sciences industry in part due to the decades of investment and many groundbreaking scientific advancements at Regeneron," Governor Hochul said. "The COVID-19 crisis was one demonstration of how quickly and effectively Regeneron is able to deploy its drug discovery and development engine against devastating diseases. Regeneron's work has undoubtedly saved countless lives in New York and throughout the United States, and we are proud that Regeneron will continue to create good jobs and invest in the Mid-Hudson region as they work to make additional breakthroughs against blindness-causing diseases, cancer, genetic diseases and more.

Early voting hours at Town Hall today till 4 PM. Tomorrow: noon to 8 pm. Wed: 8 am to 4 PM. Thursday noon to 8 pm. Friday: 8 am to 4 PM. Saturday: 10 AM to 6 pm and Sunday 10 AM to 6 PM.

Early voting turnout at Greenburgh Town Hall during the past few days was very poor. In Ukraine residents are fighting and losing their lives so they can continue to have a democracy. Let's not take our freedoms for granted because one day we may not have them.

Greenburgh Insider: Brandon Whyte's Dream Dance Studio in Elmsford--a story to celebrate on Juneteenth.

Brandon Whyte opened up Dream Dance studio in Elmsford during the pandemic. On Juneteenth let's celebrate a young African American business that is destined for success.

On Juneteenth we should also celebrate African American owned businesses and success stories. One young businessman who is destined for success is Brandon Whyte, a young African American man who recently opened up the Dream Dance Studio in Elmsford. It's difficult to open up a new business during a pandemic but Brandon didn't get discouraged. And, he's becoming one of our business success stories.

Brandon started his business when he was only 24 years old. He's passionate about dance. And has great business skills. He wants his students to enjoy dance, to be creative. He has taught dance in parks, gives classes in hip hop, Zumba, ballet and ballroom to those of any age. His studio is great for birthday parties, studio rentals. Office located at 321 East Main Street, Elmsford. I recently interviewed Brandon on my WVOX radio show. He's very impressive. I predict that he will be hearing much more about him in the coming years and also predict that he will one day be one of the role models and leaders in our Westchester business community.

Greenburgh Insider: Reasons why town government will be open this year on Juneteenth.

The Town of Greenburgh acknowledges that Juneteenth is an important holiday that should be celebrated and honored by all. The current contracts negotiated with the CSEA, Teamsters and Police Union (PBA) list specifically named holidays. Juneteenth or “federal holidays” are not on any of the lists. The Town Board, after consultation with our Town Attorneys and a thorough review of our current union contracts, has unanimously decided to take the following actions to properly address Juneteenth moving forward.

The CSEA and Teamsters union contracts expire at the end of this year. Therefore, re-negotiations will begin soon. We expect the unions will work with the Town Board to add Juneteenth as an officially observed holiday for our CSEA and Teamsters employees starting next year. The PBA agreement expires the end of 2023. However, the Town Board is willing to discuss an interim Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the PBA regarding Juneteenth for next year, in advance of renegotiations on their new contract for 2024.

The Town is constrained by the terms of our currently negotiated agreements. Therefore, employees in all departments are expected to work this coming Monday, June 20, as per the language of the current contracts. However, we understand that employees have the right to take off and celebrate using their own vacation time or the personal time available in the existing contracts. Email your department head today if you plan to take off Monday.

Juneteenth is a day of celebration. The town sponsored a Juneteenth celebration on Friday and a flag raising ceremony at Town Hall. There was a motorcade, celebration with food music and fun at Richard Presser Park.

Juneteenth celebrations in Greenburgh will get better and better each year.

Greenburgh Insider: WANTED- FOOD TRUCKS, ENTERTAINERS FOR EARLY VOTING HOURS AT TOWN HALL.

We need to encourage people to vote. Having food trucks and entertainment at early voting hours could increase participation.

WANTED---FOOD TRUCKS, ENTERTAINERS FOR EARLY VOTING DAYS AT GREENBURGH TOWN HALL.

We want to encourage more voter participation in the important Governor, Lt. Governor and State Assembly primaries this week.

If you have a food truck or are a musician who is interested in showing off your talent - we want YOU! During the past two years we have encouraged food trucks and entertainers to have a presence at the Greenburgh Town Hall parking lot during early voting hours. We want to make early voting at Greenburgh Town Hall a destination location. You can pick and choose the hours that work best for you.

This is the third year that the town of Greenburgh plans to encourage voter participation with food trucks, entertainers. During the pandemic the Greenburgh Health Center also offered outdoor flu shots and Covid vaccines. People are fighting in Ukraine for democracy. Here in the United States there is much apathy -which is sad. We can't take our democracy for granted by not voting.
