Community meeting will enable residents to have better understanding of recommended changes to Mt Joy/Robin Hill Road. To ask questions and to comment.
We also need a sidewalk on Mt Joy.
On Sunday we posted an announcement that the Town Board would vote for traffic change patterns on Mt Joy/Robin Hill Road on Wednesday evening at our Town Board meeting. Since that time the Town Board and I have received numerous e mails and calls from residents who expressed concerns. A suggestion was made to put the recommended changes on hold until there is a community meeting prior to the Board voting and for residents to have a chance to speak, ask questions, have a better understanding.
I spoke with Sgt. Nick Reckson, our traffic safety officer. We both agree that delaying a vote until after a community meeting would make sense. The police had previously met with the Edgemont School district and with some parents. But, not everyone in the neighborhood was aware of the details.
In addition to considering traffic pattern changes, it's our hope to work with the Public Works department --hoping that we can design, fund and build a new sidewalk on Mt Joy and Robin Hill. A sidewalk on Mt Joy and Robin HIll would be an important safety enhancement for students walking to the Seely Place School or Edgemont HS. It should be a part of any plan.
I think it's important that the community, Edgemont school district and town work cooperatively to address safety concerns and come up with a plan that most people will recognize is good for the children and community.
