I interviewed the President of the congregation and the VP of membership on the WVOX radio interview show. Synagogues are more than a place to pray. They have become community centers.
The Greenburgh Hebrew Center, which is located at 515 Broadway in Dobbs Ferry, is celebrating their 75th anniversary this year! I recently interviewed on my radio program Jeff Liss who is President of the Center and Leslie Liss who is Vice President of Membership. They reside in Ardsley. They discussed the history of the Greenburgh Hebrew Center.
Modern day synagogues are more than just a place to pray. They have become community centers. Members can meet lifelong friends by joining the Sisterhood, Men's Clubs, programs for empty nesters. There is also a social action committee. Some congregants participate in the Midnight Run- providing food to the hungry and homeless. They help the less fortuntate. The temple led the effort to promote a greener environment years ago. Jeff & Leslie also discuss early childhood programs, the religious schools and lifelong learning on the show.
