Greenburgh Insider: Greenburgh budget in its entirety on town website--how much does tax rate decrease impact you?

 


Tax rate reductions will impact households in Greenburgh and in the villages. Town board has until Dec 20th to approve or modify the proposed budget.

HOW MUCH DOES A TAX RATE REDUCTION IMPACT A HOUSEHOLD WHOSE HOME IS ASSESSED AT $500,000?


2023 BUDGET SUMMARY TOWN WIDE: (A Budget) Tax rate decrease = 6.70% Total Appropriations = $21.8 million, down $7.6 million from 2022 For a resident whose home is assessed at $500,000 there would be a decrease in the taxes they pay in 2023 compared to 2022 – $211.03 in 2023 vs. $226.17 in 2022 ,with a savings of $15.15 per $500,000 of assessed value. The A budget serves both the villages and unincorporated Greenburgh. Most municipal services in villages are provided by village governments.


TOWNOUTSIDE: (B Budget) Tax rate decrease = 6.64% (A Fund and B Fund combined) Total Appropriations = $91.1 million, up $0.6 million from 2022 For a resident whose home is assessed at $500,000 there would be a decrease in the taxes they pay in 2023 compared to 2022 – $2,736.23 in 2023 vs. $2,930.97 in 2022,with a savings of $194.74 per $500,000 of assessed value. The B budget serves only unincorporated Greenburgh residents.


The town has no control over the county, paid fire districts or school district budgets which make up about 85% of the taxes you pay. This budget only impacts town municipal services.
