Greenburgh Insider: Another tax reduction announcement--Westchester joining Greenburgh proposing a tax cut.

Another tax reduction announcement.

Another tax reduction announcement!!!

Some good news. Last week I submitted my proposed budget to the Greenburgh Town Board -proposing a 6% tax cut for the town portion of your tax bills. On Thursday Westchester County Executive George Latimer announced plans to reduce the county portion of your tax bill.  Westchester & Greenburgh have not increased the tax levy or tax rates in four years!  Both proposed budgets must be approved or modified by the Board of Legislators or in the case of Greenburgh- The Greenburgh Town Board.

We both recognize the fact that our residents are stressed out   Inflation is  high, the price of food, gas rent and all the essentials of life are  going up. it's nice for local and county government to give residents some good news and relief. And to make the county/town portion of your entire tax bill less painful.

The county & town portion of your tax bill does not represent the majority of your taxes. Over half of your taxes go to the schools which are independently run. The town also has no control over the three paid fire districts - Hartsdale, Greenville and Fairview.

Although a tax reduction announcement is good news - we need to continue to look for ways to make government more efficient. We need to explore more opportunities for sharing.  Let's end our distinction of having among the highest property taxes in America.
