Greenburgh Insider: Site walk-Taxter Road (proposed sidewalk) Monday at 10 AM beginning at site of new playground, parking area.

WALK ON MONDAY WITH RESIDENTS AT 10 AM TO REVIEW PROPOSAL FOR A SIDEWALK FROM OLD SCHOOL TO MOUNTAIN ROAD ON TAXTER ROAD.

AVALON WILL BE CONTRIBUTING  $120,000 TOWARDS SIDEWALK .

Greenburgh Town officials and civic leaders/residents will meet at the new playground/parking area on Taxter Road at 10 AM on Monday, November 28th to discuss a future sidewalk that will be built alongside  the new playground (new parking area next to the playground that the town constructed recently) and continue to Mountain Road.. We will walk the area from the school to Mountain Road --highlighting action steps that need to be taken to get the sidewalk built.  We want to show residents what obstructions have to be removed in order to build a sidewalk and answer questions residents may have.  The E Irvington Civic Association has advocated that a sidewalk be built on Taxter for many years.

At the Town Board meeting this past Monday the Board worked out an agreement wtih Avalon. They had previously been required to provide shuttle service to the train station for their tenants but very few people took advantage of the shuttle service.  It was costly to them. The Board, after consultation with the E Irvington Civic Association, agreed to allow Avalon to discontinue that service. In return - they will contribute $120,000 towards the proposed sidewalk on Taxter.   This sidewalk is important. A brand new playground was  placed at the Old School on Taxter Road very recently and the town (at the request of the civic association) created a parking area. A sidewalk will enable residents to walk safely to the playground with their children.

The site visit with residents is the first step the town takes before new  sidewalks are built. We recently awarded a contractor a contract  to build a new  sidewalk on N Washington Ave (a site visit took place a few years ago). That sidewalk construction should start in the coming months and be completed next year. And, last year the Town Board conducted a site visit walk with residents of Juniper Hill. We anticipate that construction of the Juniper Hill sidewalk will begin in 2023. A new sidewalk on Hillside Ave that will enable residents to walk from the Town Hall to South Road will be constructed next year. That sidewalk was originally scheduled for 2022 but Con Ed has advised us that they are going to be doing underground gas work in the coming months-- delaying that project till 2023. Additional new sidewalks will be built on W Hartsdale Ave and Dobbs Ferry Road. Funding was obtained for those sidewalks from NYS and the federal government. We will continue to work hard to make our town more pedestrian friendly and safe.
