We want to recognize a talented young poet as our first Youth Poet Laureate.
The Arts and Culture Committee has re-launched its search for Greenburgh's first Youth Poet Laureate. The poet selected for the two-year, non-paying position will be charged with encouraging the creation of original poetry by young people in Greenburgh’s communities, and creating or facilitating opportunities for youth to engage in poetry-related activities.
If you are a poet between 16 and 20 years of age, live in Greenburgh’s incorporated or unincorporated areas, or are a student in a school or college in Greenburgh, you are eligible to throw your hat into the ring. Applicants must submit a letter of interest that includes your name, address and the best way to reach you to schedule an interview; samples of your work; and two letters of support from adults who are familiar with you and your work. The deadline for submission of applications is March 1st, 2023.

Another great initiative from the Arts & Culture Committee. It's important that the town recognize talented young people and provide them with the exposure they deserve. Who knows...the Greenburgh Youth Poet Laureate may one day be the next Amanda Gorman, who in 2021 was the youngest poet to give the inaugural address at President Biden's inauguration and the first ever National Youth Poet Laureate.
