Greenburgh Insider: Icy conditions on W Hartsdale Ave--what should be done.

The state has advised that a broken water main is the responsibility of a property owner to fix which has not been done yet. I have suggested that the town or state replace the pipe and bill the resident for the costs.

The Town has been made aware of potentially icy and wet road conditions on West Hartsdale Avenue, which is a state road that is not maintained by the Town.  It has been determined that these conditions exist because a homeowner has failed to fix a broken water main, which is their own responsibility.  Despite not owning the road or creating the problem, the town staff is attempting to help rectify the issue.  Furthermore, the Town Attorney’s Office is currently reviewing options to help residents with these types of issues in the future.  I have suggested that in situations like this (icy roads) that either the town or state replace the broken pipe and bill the resident for the costs incurred if the repairs are the owners responsibility.
