Greenburgh Insider: Cricket field at Webb Field being upgraded.

Artificial turf, new conrete pad at Webb Field in Hartsdale.

Greenburgh first community in Westchester to promote cricket.

If you have recently noticed a concrete pad at Richard Presser Park on Webb Field, it is the new cricket pitch that will be getting artificial turf attached to it later this spring. The cricket pitch will be available for play in June.

As far back as 2012, the discussion to find space to play cricket started with residents in the cricket community.  It was very challenging in finding a suitable location for them to play.

After a town board meeting on January 9, 2019 where residents in Greenburgh that played or supported the sport of cricket along with cricket players from the metro area convinced the Commissioner of Parks and Recreation and the Town Board to find a modified field to play.  Working with a group of residents, Greenburgh Parks and Recreation felt the most suitable area to play was on Webb Field.  We believe this was the first public park in the county to build a pitch using a modified cricket field and ball.

The pitch was well received in 2019 and since that time the sport has been growing where annually one or two tournaments are being held, clinics are being offered for youth is taking place and players now have a place to practice and the department now offers a small adult cricket league.

Any questions about cricket, the sport or for signing up for the cricket league, call 914-989-1817 and ask for Recreation Supervisor, Craig Scaildone.
