The Town of Greenburgh has placed signs around Anthony Veteran pool reminding parents and caregivers to keep an eye out for young children who are enjoying our pool. The signs which say “Watch Your Children –For Pool Safety there is no substitution for supervision”- was designed by the Water Guardian Foundation, headed by Samantha Pfeffer, a Junior at Edgemont High School.
When Samantha was 8 years old her sister, Saige, drowned in a pool. Her sister was only 2 ½ years old. Samantha has devoted her free time trying to encourage parents and caregivers to be alert so that a similar tragedy won’t happen to them.
I intend to write to the Westchester County Parks department and to municipal officials from around the county and will encourage them to also place similar posters at their municipal pools. I will also be writing to condo, coop Boards in Greenburgh and residents who have pools in their homes asking that they consider placing a pool safety reminder sign near their pool.
It only takes a few seconds for a child who isn’t being watched to drown. WE hope that these signs will motivate adults who take small children to the pool to always watch the child. Supervision will save lives.

Greenburgh Town Supervisor
