Norman is a collector of ray guns and appreciates science fiction.
Greenburgh resident Norman Gaines has an interest exhibit at the Greenburgh Library. Norman is a collector of Ray Guns and Miriam Bernabei interviews Norman on the you tube link below. The exhibit Norman shares with the community –featuring some of his collections is very interesting.
Norman saw his first science-fiction movie when he was 5, back in 1953. Almost all of them dealt in some way with ray guns. These were always highly stylized instruments with almost impossible capabilities. At the same time he was seeing these movies, a whole host of similar-appearing raygun toys were becoming available at what we called five-and-dime stores. Every kid wanted one. Not every kid could afford one. But as time went on, the raygun held on as a popular item, and Norman found himself acquiring a few here and there. He was even able to buy "signature" items, i.e. rayguns that were inspired by TV shows and movies. Norman shares some of his collections with Greenburgh library patrons.
