Ardsley, NY – The Town of Greenburgh Parks and Recreation department in conjunction with ITPTA Certified Teaching Pro & 2018 US Open Singles Gold Medalist Ken Henderson will be offering a Beginners and Intermediate Clinic on July 25^th 2019 at Anthony Veterans Park 11 Olympic Lane Ardsley, NY.

Whether you are new to the game, just playing a short time or a seasoned player looking to improve your technique one of these clinics is for you. Here is your chance to learn from and play with a pro;

There is a $10 participation fee for the Beginner Clinic and a $15 fee for the Intermediate Clinic.

GREENBURGH TOWN BOARD TO VOTE WEDNESDAY NIGHT TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF HISTORIC ODELL HOUSE –WHICH WILL BE RESTORED.

HOUSE PLAYED AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR.

AFTER VOTE TOWN SUPERVISOR AND PRESIDENT OF SONS OF AMERICAN REVOLUTION WILL SIGN AGREEMENT AT ODELL HOUSE.

On July 10th at 7:00 PM the Greenburgh Town Board will meet at the Odell House Rochambeau Headquarters on Ridge Road,  Hartsdale to authorize Town Supervisor Paul Feiner to sign the contract transferring ownership of the property to the Town. Bob Stackpole, president of the NY Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution is authorized by his membership to sign the contract at the same time.  Immediately after the vote Town Supervisor Feiner and Mr. Stackpole will sign the agreement using an antique desk found on the property.

The event will include a brief history of this amazing house from its construction in 1732 to the day the last Odell gave it to the SAR in 1965. It was here in 1781 that George Washington and General Rochambeau met for six weeks and plotted the winning strategy of the American Revolution. Susan Seal, the chair of the newly formed Friends of Odell House Rochambeau Headquarters, and Bob Stackpole will give this history and outline the plans for the future restoration. Mrs. Seal’s 501c3 non-profit will help the Town coordinate grant applications, donations from private individuals and volunteer helpers.

The members of the Town Board who will be voting are Diana Juettner, Ellen Hendrickx, Francis Sheehan, Ken Jones and Supervisor Feiner.

If you are planning to speak at the second scoping session for the proposed Ridgewood/Elmwood development at 850 Dobbs Ferry Road this coming Wednesday, please note that the meeting will start later than previously advertised--after 8 PM (possibly later). The Town Board will first hold a special meeting at the historic Odell House on Ridge Road in Hartsdale at 7 PM and will then reconvene at Greenburgh Town Hall to conduct all other town business.  

The owner of the former Elmwood Country Club is seeking permission to build a 175 unit townhouse style community for people age 55 and over. the purpose of the scoping session is for the community to ask questions that will be analyzed by our consultant  -the Chazen group.

Those who cannot attend the scoping session can submit your questions and suggestions in writing. Our consultants will also be reviewing alternatives to the proposed development.

Building a sidewalk takes a lot of work and effort. Earlier this week I stopped by to watch construction crews and our water department taking action steps so residents of Columbia Ave in Hartsdale will be able to enjoy walking on a safe and ADA compliant sidewalk.  I took the following photo's - including the photo of the crews replacing a water hydrant. Most people think that building a sidewalk is easy --it isn't. Obstructions have to be removed (like the hydrant), utility poles sometimes have to be moved. Sometimes people have planted bushes, trees on town right of way that have to be removed (or there are other obstructions that also have to be removed).  Our engineers and town staff work very hard to make sure that the sidewalk, once built, improves the quality of life for residents.

We started planning for the Columbia Ave sidewalk in late 2016. We conducted a walk with residents who signed petitions for the sidewalk in March, 2017 showing them what we were planning to do.  The portion of the sidewalk on Columbia should be completed in about two or three weeks (weather permitting).   We will then proceed with the implementation of a crosswalk safety initiative on Ardsley Road/Edgemont Road before heading back to Lawton. The sidewalk that is being built  on Columbia/Lawton will enable residents from E Hartsdale Ave to walk on Columbia to Central Ave (Sacred Heart Church is also at the corner of Lawton).

We will continue to work hard to make Greenburgh a more pedestrian friendly community.  We plan to gradually build more sidewalks every year around town.

Today: July 3rd -the country club off of Underhill Road, Edgemont section of Greenburgh, will have a private fireworks display. However- one should be able to see the display from the side streets in Hartsdale and Edgemont.
Irvington is also having a fireworks display at 9 PM at their waterfront. Parking is difficult.  Enjoy the 4th.

Earlier today the Town Board received notification from the Board of Directors of the Lois Bronz Children's Center (LBCC) that its former Executive Director was arraigned in  Court for financial improprieties that took place during her tenure as Executive Director of the LBCC. 

The LBCC, named after the first woman African American Chair of the Board of Legislators,  has been a bedrock in our community for more than 50 years.  Despite recent challenges, the LBCC continues to provide exceptional care to hundreds of children each year. 

Although the LBCC is independent of the town, and the town does not contribute funds toward its childcare costs, the town does own and maintain the LBCC building on Manhattan Avenue.  Therefore, several months ago, the LBCC's Board of Directors met with our Town Board.   At that meeting the Directors briefed the Town Board about alleged financial improprieties and the steps undertaken to rectify the situation.  We were told as soon as the Directors suspected funds designated for the children's center were being misappropriated they contacted the Westchester County Police, which took charge investigating the incident. 

To protect the rights of the former Executive Director and to not interfere with the independent investigation by Westchester County Police, no public statements have been made during the investigation by the Directors or by town officials. 

The LBCC Directors, the majority of whom are long time Greenburgh residents ,are dedicated to ensuring that the children's center is well run, providing children with excellent daycare.  The Directors want to reassure parents that at no time was the safety of their children in question.  The children's center has been and will continue to be a safe and welcoming place for parents and guardians to send their children.  

The LBCC Board of Directors is committed to making sure that every dollar appropriated to the children's center is used efficiently and is transparently documented.  I am writing to you on behalf of the Town Board and the LBCC Board of Directors to ask that you continue to support the LBCC as it continues to provide excellent childcare for the future leaders of our community.   I have spoken with the leadership of the LBCC Board of Directors. The Town Board will designate a liaison to the Board of the LBCC.

Lifeguards wanted for Town of Greenburgh Parks & Rec Department.

Looking for certified lifeguards 15 yrs and older to work full or part time at Anthony F Veteran Park and Massaro Park. 

If you are not certified but interested in becoming a lifeguard we can train you (​next class starts 7/8). You must be able to swim 12 laps without stopping and retrieve a brick from the bottom of our dive tank.
