free scholarships for veterans who are interested in obtaining a Master of Science Degree in Mathematics Education and becoming a teacher.

Dr. William Farber is an  Associate Professor of Mathematics Education at Mercy College, and a United States Navy Veteran (1968 – 1974).  He also lives in Greenburgh and is passionate about the community, veterans and math.

Mercy College is  again offering a wonderful scholarship opportunity to military veterans and reservists, to earn a tuition-free Master of Science Degree in Mathematics Education and become a secondary mathematics teacher in our high need schools. Great news, the National Science Foundation recently approved their request to recruit a new cohort of veterans for the program

The Board of the Greenburgh Library Guild Is Looking For a Few Good Men and Women.

The Greenburgh Public Library is a vital community asset, providing opportunities for learning, services, and cultural enrichment for all members of the Greenburgh area. Meeting the ever-changing needs of our community for Library services requires private contributions to supplement the critical operating support provided by the Town of Greenburgh. 

The mission of the Greenburgh Library Guild is to raise private funds for special projects and improvements to the Library’s already dynamic physical space.   We are seeking a diverse group of Greenburgh-area residents (in terms of ethnicity, gender, age, and backgrounds) interested in furthering this important work to join our Board. Volunteers with ideas, energy, and who appreciate the value the Library brings to our community--kids, families, and residents of all ages-- are welcome to apply.  Prior experience on a non-profit board would be helpful, but not required.

Individuals with backgrounds in fund raising, marketing and communications, finance/accounting, or business are especially encouraged to apply. You can make a major difference!

National Night Out Tomorrow Evening.

Just a reminder that we will once again be participating in National Night Out- tomorrow evening from 6:00pm – 9:00pm at Greenburgh Town Hall.

Bring the kids, bring the family , come out and meet your local Greenburgh police officers and neighbors at this great community event!

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

TRAFFIC LIGHT PROPOSED AT ARDSLEY ROAD/FT HILL ROAD.

Please find a link to a traffic consultant’s report: Fort Hill Road/Ardsley Road intersection. The recommendation is for a traffic light instead of a blinking light.

Before any action is taken there will be a community meeting  during evening hours after labor day with the traffic consultant, town officials and residents.   Earlier this year civic leaders, residents who live near this busy intersection and town officials met and agreed to proceed with the hiring of a traffic consultant.

If you would like to participate at  the meeting please advise.  In addition to the traffic light we will improve the crosswalk at the intersection and construct a new sidewalk on Ardsley Road.  Work could take place next year.

WE HOPE TO COMPLETE ARDSLEY ROAD/EDGEMONT ROAD SAFETY CROSSWALK IMPROVEMENTS THIS WEEK

Most of the Ardsley Road/Edgemont Road crosswalk improvements (the construction) will be completed this week. However, the crosswalk lights might take up to a few more weeks before they are operational.

Celebrate Indian culture today at the Kensico Dam!  Greenburgh is proud of our diversity.  We have one of the largest Indian populations in Westchester. Today,  Westchester County celebrates the culture of those whose families were or are   from India with a fantastic event at the Kensico Dam.  Music, dance, arts and crafts and food vendors. Assisted Living Facility Proposal Submitted for former Maplewood Swim Club Property.

It is my policy to notify neighbors and the community of proposed developments. The Town recently received a special permit application for a new 115-unit Assisted Living Facility at 202 West Hartsdale Avenue, P.O. Hartsdale. The proposal involves the redevelopment of the site, which exists as a former swim club, to an Assisted Facility use. The project requires the following land-use board approvals: special permit (Town Board), site plan (Town Board, with referral to the Planning Board), steep slope permit (Planning Board), and area variances (Zoning Board of Appeals). The applicant previously appeared before the Town Board at a work session on November 13, 2018, which can be viewed here: http://greenburghny.swagit.com/play/11132018-733 Some of the concerns raised by Town Board members at that time included pedestrian connectivity (the need for a sidewalk on West Hartsdale Ave to Central Ave), the need for an affordability component, general traffic concerns, and questions regarding the view of the proposed building from surrounding areas.

On April 2, 2019, the applicant held a community meeting at Solomon Schechter school to present the project to residents.

Presently the proposal is in review with Town staff, Westchester County Planning Board, Hartsdale Fire Department, NYSDOT and an independent traffic consultant. The Town Board, Planning Board and Zoning Board meetings will all include public hearings.
