Four exceptional women who were honored by the Greenburgh Town Board and Town Clerk Judith Beville for being amazing!
The Greenburgh Town Hall Women’s History Month Celebrations were launched by Greenburgh Town Clerk, Judith A. Beville over ten years ago and, through collaboration with the Greenburgh Town Board, have resulted in honoring approximately fifty women in our Town who have served their communities, to help improve the quality of life for residents. This year’s honorees are exceptional leaders who have made our town a much better place. The honorees are:
Assistant Greenburgh Town Historian Felicia Barber: was born in New York City and raised in Greenburgh’s Hamlet of Hartsdale. She graduated from Ardsley High School in 2013. In 2018. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. As part of her curriculum, she created logos to appear on the tee-shirts of Physical Education majors. Outside of her studies, she has also done work for Greenburgh Hebrew Center. Ever since fall of 2017, she has used her considerable skill with Adobe graphic design applications including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign to assist the Town of Greenburgh with many projects including: The Greenburgh Compost project, a Veteran’s event, the State Roads Legislative Campaign project, and the Odell House Restoration project. Most recently, she has been illustrating the weekly “A Slice of History” blog as one of the Assistant Town Historians since Summer of 2018.
Parkway Homes leader Alicia Ford was born and raised in Harlem (135th Street between 7th & Lenox) NY, and attended NYC Public Schools through 12th grade. Growing up in Harlem is where she received her calling to be involved in community affairs. She engaged in the protest movements of the late 1960’s and 70’s in Harlem. During those years of unrest, there were many killings of young Black innocent children with no accountability, allegedly at the hands of police officers, thus lots of rallies and marching. It didn't resonate until she got older.
After relocating with her family to the Bronx in 1975, she later married, started a family of her own and, in 988, moved to Parkway Homes in the Town of Greenburgh where she has resided for 34 years. Inspired by school and community issues, she became engaged as a “Block Captain” with the Parkway Homes Civic Association and, later, was elected president of the association – a leadership position she has served in for nearly eight years. In this capacity, Alicia has been consistently involved in her local government, as well as school district, attending meetings and addressing issues that relate to the quality of life for residents in her community and throughout the town.
Alicia retired, in 2021, from the City of New York Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) in NYC, after 40 years of dedicated service to helping New Yorkers achieve fair housing. Wife and mother of three adult children, Alicia is a 20 year member of Union Baptist Church (UBC) in Greenburgh, NY where Rev. Dr. Verlin D. Williams, is the Pastor. Alicia serves on the Food for Life Ministry – a church community service that provides approximately 250-300 dinners weekly to 3 local shelters, our seniors, sick and or shut-ins and those who walk in off the street every Tuesday.
Vikki Simmons, Acting Director of the Greenburgh Neighborhood Health Center, Fairview Fire Commissioner and TDYCC Advisory Board member
Currently the acting Executive Director of the Greenburgh Neighborhood Health Center, Vikki is a lifelong resident of the Town of Greenburgh. She has served her community in several leadership roles. For thirty years, Vikki has been a Fire Commissioner for the Fairview Fire District where, along with four other commissioners, shares in decision making for employment, training, discipline, promotion, safety and welfare of district firefighting staff. She also assists with negotiating union contracts and controlling a multi-million dollar budget. She has also been an active member of the White Plains/Greenburgh NAACP and has served for nearly 35 years on the Theodore D. Young Community Center Advisory Board. For nearly thirty years, Vikki was a Second Vice-President for the National Bank of Westchester, Lincoln First Banks, Inc., Chase Manhattan Bank, N.A.
Judith Watson, Mt Vernon Neighborhood Health Center CEO
Chief Executive Officer, Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center, Inc., the parent organization of the Greenburgh Neighborhood Health Center where Judith served as a nurse, nurse administrator and, eventually, the Executive Director. Judith’s career also includes nine years in the United States Army where she holds the title of Sergeant. With a Master’s Degree in Public Health from New York Medical College and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Registered Nursing, Judith has made major strides in improving the quality of healthcare services to residents within the municipalities where she has served in her various leadership roles.
