Greenburgh Insider: New News Flash Spread the word- the Greenburgh Neighborhood Health Center helping refugees with health care.

News 12 link to interview with a recent refugee from Ukraine who is receiving health care help from the Greenburgh Neighborhood Health Center below.

According to an article in the Hudson Independent Greenburgh has the second largest Ukrainian population in Westchester. 793 according to the most recent census.  Yonkers has 1,745 residents with ancestors from Ukraine.  The Ukrainian population in Dobbs Ferry is  is between 50 and 100 people.

Some Ukrainian residents are encouraging their families to relocate temporarily from the Ukraine to Greenburgh. News 12 ran a story about Greenburgh Health Center yesterday - how they are offering free care to refugees. And, they interviewed a recent refugee (mom of concert pianist Irena Portenko who is receiving help from the center).  Irena's uncle who suffers from Parkinsons is also receiving care.  The Health Center has also provided help to a young refugee who has a baby with dental needs.  If you know any family that is housing a refugee from the Ukraine, Afghanistan, South America - or anywhere please encourage them to seek help from the Health Center if they need assistance.  The Health Center has never disappointed . They are caring, always helpful and go the extra mile to provide quality health care to those in need.

The Greenburgh Neighborhood Health Center is located at 295 Knollwood Road, White Plains (almost across from the Greenburgh Library). The phone number is 914 989 7600.   They have worked with the town -giving residents boosters, vaccines, flu shots. And - they hope to obtain a grant so they can make housecalls.

A terrific non profit requires excellent leadership. A shout out to Judith Watson, who is CEO of the Health Center. Greenburgh's Interim Site Director Vikki Simmons  is doing a great job implementing innovative initiatives for the health center. Vikki has also served as a Fairview Fire Commissioner. Over the years she has been a terrific advocate for the Theodore Young Community Center and other important local initiatives.  She's been involved in the community for many years. We're lucky to have her!
