Reminder: Jazz at Theodore Young Community Center 11- 6PM TODAY.
I plan to introduce legislation being advocated by the Edgemont Community Council that would adopt a new zoning ordinance restricting the sale of tobacco and vaping products within 1,500 feet of a school. Currently, 3 establishments have advertised tobacco and vaping products within 1,500 feet of the Seely Place Elementary School or Edgemont Jr/Sr High School in the last month. The legislation to be introduced will apply to the entire unincorporated Greenburgh community. I am also very concerned with another safety matter: one of the shops (near the Seely School) continues to display on their window knives. I have asked the Interim Town Attorney to review whether this can be prohibited. I believe that if the Town Board approves a new ordinance it should also ban the sale of any weapons, knives, guns near schools.
I have signed the Edgemont Community Council on line petition and encourage residents of Greenburgh to also sign the petition. This needs to be given high priority.
On July 19th the American Lung Association will send a representative to the Town Board to discuss additional strategies dealing with tobacco and vaping products. Let's keep our children healthy and safe! We want Greenburgh to be a model for other communities in the state.
