Meeting is being held with a representative of American Lung Association on July 19 and Town Board.
I’ve recently received a number of complaints about smoke shops within the Town displaying paraphernalia in their windows and targeting children with their advertising. In response, the Town is reviewing the requirements of smoke shops to ensure that they are in compliance with regulatory codes and the Public Health Law. We want to ensure that these businesses are not using predatory advertising on our children. I will also be reaching out to the Westchester County Department of Health to assist us in this undertaking.
Just earlier today, one smoke shop on Central Ave was found to be in violation of our Town Code and immediate action was taken, including the issuance of a a violation. I met with the Interim Building Inspector Robert Dam today. He indicated that if the paraphernalia is not removed from the window that daily summons will be issued. The health and safety of our citizens, especially our children, is a priority. We will be holding a meeting with the American Lung Association on July 19 at approximately 5:20 to strategize how to proceed going forward. Trevor Summerfield, director for Advocacy for MA, NY and VT has confirmed that he will meet with the Town Board via zoom on that date.
