On Wed September 21 at 10 AM  Greenburgh town officials, fashion celebrities and residents  will meet on Worthington Road and Saw Mill River Road to dedicate a commemorative street sign in honor and in memory of Andre Leon Talley.   The world respected fashion journalist, creative director and editor at large of Vogue Magazine lived on Worthington Road. He was the first Afircan American creative director of Vogue Magazine and then first African American editor at large.  Among those expected to attend are Anna Winitour who has served as editor in Chief of Vogue since 1988.

Following the ceremony guests will attend a reception at City Limits Diner in White Plains (on the border of Greenburgh), 200 Central Ave). This was Andre Leon Talley's favorite local eatery.

The event is being organized by Azline Suber and Town Clerk Judith Beville who suggested the honorary street designation to the Greenburgh Town Board earlier this year. Azline, a local resident, met Andre at City Limits Restaurant. They quickly became friends. 

Andre Leon Talley,  Mr. Talley  was a role model in the community, was instrumental in facilitating access to the wide world of fashion journalism for hundreds of African Americans. He increased diversity in the profession.  Andre Leon Talley also took time out of his schedule to mentor and inspire others. He also spoke to Greenburgh summer youth interns in 2017 at Greenburgh Town Hall.   The members of the Town Board, who are expected to be present at the ribbon cutting on Wednesday, unanimously voted to approve the honorary street naming. Members of the Board who voted for the street designation are Ken Jones, Gina Jackson, Francis Sheehan, Ellen Hendrickx and myself.  We are grateful that Andre helped put Greenburgh on the map.
