COMING SOON: A NEW COMMUNITY GARDEN AT THEODORE YOUNG COMMUNITY CENTER
TEEN TASK FORCE FUNDRAISER FOR GARDEN ON APRIL 14 IN ARDSLEY.
The teen task force is organizing a Sip and Paint event to raise funds for the new community garden to be located at the Theodore Young Community Center. The Sip and Paint is a fun-filled event where participants join an instructor-led canvas painting experience while enjoying drinks and refreshments. Pre-registration is required for this event. The event will take place on April 14th from 6 PM to 8 PM at Honest Art, 708 Saw Mill River Road, Ardsley.
The Community Garden will be built at the Theodore Young Community Center. It is a new intergenerational community routine for the residents of Greenburgh. We plan to provide an educational growing space that is accessible to people of all ages and varying levels of mobility. The initial design will hold 10 5-tier grow towers and 3 8ft x 4ft raised bed bins, offering 50 rows and 24 4-sq ft. raised bed plots to residents, local organizations and school districts.
At present, all funding has been provided by the Hartsdale Rotary Club, Greenburgh Teen Task Force and donations from individual patrons. The goal is to break ground in the garden by May of this year. We are currently in the process of preparing to trench a water source to the garden plot and the next steps are to place the growing materials in the garden space and begin construction of the fence.
