The committee seeks new members to promote protecting and advancing human rights.

The Town of Greenburgh Human Rights Advisory Committee (HRAC) is seeking new members.

Launched in 2015 by Town Supervisor Paul Feiner, the Greenburgh Human Rights Advisory Committee (HRAC) is seeking to expand our membership. The HRAC is an organization of volunteers residing in unincorporated and incorporated Greenburgh, NY.  Inspired by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights drafted by The United Nations (https://www.un.org/en/about-us/universal-declaration-of-human-rights), our function is to provide informational and educational public forums to promote human rights advocacy and respond to community concerns about human rights violations in Greenburgh.

Members of the committee are appointed by the Town Board, for the purpose of advancing and protecting human rights by furthering racial, social, ethnic, gender economic, cultural, environmental and political justice in the Town of Greenburgh. Committee meetings occur once per month via Zoom and are currently held on 3rd Thursdays from 7-830 PM.

Applicants must:

• Be over 18 years of age and reside in the Town of Greenburgh (Unincorporated Greenburgh, Ardsley, Hastings, Dobbs Ferry, Hastings-on-Hudson, Elmsford, Irvington, Tarrytown)
• 
  
• Possess a strong commitment to public service and social justice activism
• 
  
• Demonstrate patience, empathy, open mindedness and a capacity for appreciating diverse points of view
• 
  
• Be committed to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion for all residents of Greenburgh
• 
  
• Attend at least 8 of 12 regular monthly meetings
• 
  
• Submit an application to and be approved by the Town Board

We are committed to creating a diverse, multicultural, multiracial, multigenerational committee that represents Greenburgh. This is a great opportunity to engage in community building activities that serve Greenburgh residents and allow residents of all backgrounds to unite for a common cause. We also invite high school students to join as non-voting committee members.
