A citizen is organizing an online petition to persuade NYS to repave 9A in Elmsford- possibly the worst maintained road in NYS.

THIS COULD BE THE WORST MAINTAINED STATE OWNED ROAD IN ALL OF NEW YORK STATE.
GREENBURGH, NY_ Greenburgh resident Jennifer Glen is trying to push the state to repave a dire stretch of Route 9A through Elmsford, through an online petition she created.

Jennifer Glen, a 2012 grad from Alexander Hamilton HS, was born and raised in Elmsford and is currently taking a preparatory course to apply for medical school next year. She describes herself as “very passionate about her community” and has volunteered at numerous Coronavirus testing sites and vaccination clinics, as well as helping translate for Spanish speaking patients there. She has been very involved with the American Red Cross Disaster Action Team, responding to fire scenes and natural disasters to provide immediate resources to those displaced. She also delivered groceries to the elderly and disabled during the height of the pandemic. Now Jennifer has turned her attention to the condition of this stretch of 9A from the Teamsters building to the Westchester Skating Academy that is “completely hazardous due to excessive potholes and road erosion.”
“I have pushed relentlessly to Region 8 NYSDOT and they state it is not a priority at this time, myself and many others are baffled and affronted on this decision,” she writes in the petition.
Both Elmsford Mayor Robert Williams and Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner endorse this petition and Jennifer’s effort. “The road is in horrible condition and needs desperate attention,” said Mayor Williams. “Both the Supervisor and I have spoken to the DOT and we were both told it is not in this year's budget to repave that section of 9A.”
“Residents and those who travel through Elmsford do not deserve this low quality of life on a state road,” Jennifer said.
Supervisor Feiner said, “we are appreciative of citizen activists who take the lead in organizing efforts, and often are the most effective, to make important change to improve our community.” Feiner said that he thinks this is probably the worst maintained state road in the entire state. Almost every day residents contact me to complain about the horrible condition of the state owned road.
